An Evening with Arthur Smith & Caroline Quentin - Now at Two Theatres This August

May 22, 2026

We're delighted to announce that An Evening with Arthur Smith & Caroline Quentin about "An Evening with Gary Lineker" is coming to two theatres this summer.

It's 1990. England are at the World Cup in Italy, Gazza is in tears, and the nation's heart is breaking. That night in Turin didn't just define a generation of football fans — it inspired one of the most beloved British comedies of its era, the Olivier-nominated play An Evening with Gary Lineker.

Now, the play's co-writer Arthur Smith and original cast member Caroline Quentin are reuniting to bring that story back to the stage. In conversation, they'll revisit the making of a modern classic — the writing, the filming, the football — with personal anecdotes, behind-the-scenes stories, and decades of shared friendship along the way. The evening also includes a very special filmed contribution from Gary Lineker himself.

With the World Cup back this year, there has never been a better moment to look back at the tournament that changed how we talk about football — and the comedy that captured it perfectly.

Catch them here:

Theatre Royal Winchester — Wednesday 5 August 2026, 7.30pm

Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford — Saturday 8 August 2026, 7.30pm

Running time approximately 1 hour 50 minutes including interval. Recommended for ages 14+.
