Lesley Garrett appeared on the BBC's Radio 3 with Sean Rafferty, including a piano performance by Anna Tilbrook

Britain’s most popular soprano, Lesley Garrett appeared on the BBC’s Radio 3 with Sean Rafferty on Wednesday 7th July to promote her appearance at the JAM Festival with ‘An Evening with Lesley Garrett; which took place on 9th July 2021. Lesley was accompanied by pianist Anna Tilbrook. 

Lesley talks about how she could have become a circus performer having had training to walk the tightrope and that her interest before becoming a deva was science! 

“Initially I was interested in science because music was just part of life, it was not something I thought of in career terms or as a separate subject even; it was just like eating, breathing, and walking”.

It was until Lesley went to see her first opera, Madama Butterfly, with her Aunt that she realised she knew some of the songs, which she had sung around the piano with her dad. Having had a premonition that one day she would be on that stage, she pursued her new dream. Ten short years later, her dream came true when she was offered the position of Principle Soprano.
