A Memorial Service for Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and Ambassador Lindiwe Mabusa will be held at St Martin-in-the-Fields (Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 4JH) on Monday 21st February, 2.00 pm.

The service, which is being organised with the South African High Commission, will include tributes to the Archbishop Emeritus and the Ambassador from those who knew them, an Address from Revd Dr Sam Wells, Vicar of St Martin-in-the-Fields, personal memories from Clive Conway, Chair of Tutu Foundation UK, and music from St Martin's Voices. Refreshments at South Africa House will follow the service.

You will all agree that the late Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu was a global icon who advocated for peace, justice and human rights throughout the world.

The Arch, as he was affectionately known, dedicated his life to the noble causes of freedom, democracy and service to humanity, among others.

Today we must encourage humanity to emulate the values and the teachings of the late Archbishop Tutu; and strive to become exceptional human beings of great moral stature.

As South Africa, we were honoured to have had the privilege to learn about the importance of forgiveness as demonstrated by Archbishop Tutu during the Truth and Reconciliation process.

This is the gift that South Africa wishes to share with the world as we strive for a better world.

As a nation we have an obligation to continue on his path to make meaningful impact in our communities and conduct ourselves with humility and integrity.

We will always remember the Arch for his jovial demeanour.

May we celebrate his life and spread his message of equality and peace.
