Nelson Mandela, the first democratically elected President of South Africa, shared some of his most intimate thoughts in an exclusive interview with John Battersby. This interview, considered the only one of its kind, covered a wide range of topics, including religion, his experiences in prison, and his personal philosophy of life based on mutual respect, reconciliation, forgiveness, and always keeping his eyes on the prize. Mandela also speculated on how things might have unfolded if he had never been imprisoned. The interview was published in The Christian Science Monitor in February 2000.
