The Tutu Foundation UK, Joe Slovo Foundation and Oliver Tambo Foundation are proud and delighted to support South Africa on The Square. A dynamic and uplifting tribute to the pioneers of Freedom & Democracy in South Africa staged over the years on Trafalgar Square.
Nelson Mandela was imprisoned by the apartheid government for 27 years.
2021 marks 27 years since South Africans voted in their first democratic elections – an international beacon of democracy and racial Inclusiveness
A major awareness campaign and celebration is being held to mark the role which the United Kingdom’s anti-apartheid movement played in the liberation of South Africa.
The Campaign will culminate in this month with a free, public youth and family focused event in London that will also be live-streamed free to South Africa and across the continent of Africa.

Please join us at St Martin in the Fields where we will host a concert of thanks and celebrate 27 years of freedom, with poetry, readings, and music from talented South African instrumentalists and the wonderful choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields.
Our MC is Sindiso Joya who will say something about Oliver Tambo, Jo Slovo and Desmond Tutu.

Beethoven Trio Op 11 - 3rd movement: Theme and Variations, and Fauré Trio Op 120 - 1st movement.
Our South African Instrumental Trio are pianist Roelof Temmingh, Jordan Brooks on violin and Kamogelo Maraba on cello. Jordan is still at school, at Chetham's in Manchester, and Kamogelo is studying cello in Birmingham.
This will all be interwoven between the wonderful singing of the Choir of St Martin in the Fields.
