This year the impact of COVID around the world has shaken the hopes of young people and cast a shadow over their futures. So what is next? How do we reshape the world with tolerance and love after such havoc and loss?

The Tutu Foundation UK, with our partners InnerConnect, Catalyst in Communities and AccessUnlimited place young people at the centre of this question with a new virtual event series; Courage to Heal.

Courage to Heal is a collaborative initiative, driving meaningful conversation around issues of inequality & poverty through the wisdom and hope of young people.

We invite people from all walks of life around the world to join us, and a host of inspiring youth organisations, for our first conversation 25th June with special guest Gina Miller.

“Young people and their communities are being hit by Covid-19, climate crisis and inequality all at the same time! What common strengths do you see in our approach to fighting these?" Discuss...”

Courage to Heal events will connect young people around the world to share their ideas and in addressing the need to heal our communities.

New Ambassador

Over the past 5 years Sarah Baldock has supported the work of Tutu Foundation UK in developing our communications strategy and new projects.  In her own career Sarah has been a passionate advocate of the power and joy of Ubuntu to build communities and bring about positive dialogue.  We are delighted to announce her role as Ambassador.

During the past challenging year she has developed uplifting participative virtual concepts for some amazing corporate and non-profit clients.  Sarah and her team remain ever-ready to act as creative consultants or produce live & virtual solutions for businesses who need to connect and engage people now.

Ubuntu Roundtable Update

The Ubuntu Roundtable Team have worked hard in the community during COVID restrictions.  We successfully adapted our programme to provide virtual training, continuing to create more vital opportunities for young people and police to come together in challenging times. Our Ubuntu methodology and mediation skills established common ground and reduced tension in West London.

As the community opens up our newly trained West London youth facilitators have started delivering sessions in their community; completing a successful roundtable in Cambridge School for SEN students, another due in West Thames College for the 15th of June, with a third scheduled at the ATM youth project.

We are now making plans for our team to support more communities,  to establish safe spaces for positive dialogue in Camden, Southwark and Lambeth,  giving local youth and our police strong common ground and reducing tension.

Police Quotes:

“When I first heard of the Ubuntu round table discussions I was abit sceptical. I envisaged being placed in a room with bitter young people who were simply there to blame me for all of life’s problems. Instead, due to the professional and objective approach of the facilitators the roundtable discussion enabled me to provide my personal view as a Police officer on a wide range of issues. It gave me the opportunity to show to young people that despite the uniform Police officers are human too. The Roundtable meetings genuinely changed how both I as a Police Officer and the young people themselves perceived each other in a positive manner”

YP quotes:

“It helps to see that the police are making an effort to understand us”

“Police aren't all that bad”

“I can see that police are human too”
